Constant Reception |

Romanian radio stations cover, from far, the biggest proportion of Bulgarian territory when compared to radios from other neighboring countries. To this moment (July 2009) , constant reception of Romanian signals on FM has been confirmed in all of the 28 administrative regions of Bulgaria. The last one, where the first reception of Romanian signals was confirmed only in the very beginning of 2009 was the southwestern region of Blagoevgrad. The reception was realized on the nearly 3000-meter high Pirin mountain. Romanian signals are logically the strongest in northern Bulgaria, more precisely to the north of the high Balkan mountain range (often called Stara Planina mountain). However, constant quality reception can be achieved also in southern Bulgaria, especially on the northern slopes of the Rhodope mountains in the regions of Plovdiv and Pazardzhik, as well as on several high mountains around Sofia. Many DX-colleagues from other European countries have been amazed by the quality with which Romanian FM-radio stations can be received in southern Bulgaria, considering some of them have traveled more than 400 or even 500 kilometers, and this, without any tropospheric enhancement! The strongest Romanian transmitters that can be received in Bulgaria are predominantly situated on high peaks in the southern Carpathian moutnains, some of them are in the wallachian plain in southern Romania and only few “transcarpathic” receptions of transmitters in Transylvania, to the north of the Carpathian range, can be achieved. Most important Carpathian transmitters include those situated on (from west to east) mt. Semenic, mt. Cerbu, mt. Parang, mt. Cozia and mt. Costila. |

The transmitter on mt. Costila (2495 m.) near Sinaia is undoubtedly the foreign transmitter with the biggest coverage on FM in Bulgaria. It can be received in 27 of the of the country’s 28 regions. Picture taken from www.predavatel.com |

Transcarpathian reception is possible from Gheorgheni, Deva— Magura Boiu, Blaj, Bihor, and Timisoara, both in southern and northern Bulgaria. Galati and Bacau can also often be receive in the northern Rhodopes under appropriate tropospheric conditions. Radio Trinitas on 96,5 from Galati, on the border with Moldova, has been received as far away as on Vitosha mountain near Sofia. |
